Green Lawn Cemetery
Columbus, Ohio

I believe that my great-grandfather is buried somewhere on these grounds. I drove around, thinking to look in some section with old German names.

Greenlawn Cemetery is located just outside the historic German Village, however, so this plan was quite ineffective at eliminating any sections.

It would be simpler just to ask -- I know my mother and her cousin Mary Jo visited his grave when Mary Jo was in town from Australia this spring. As it was, it gave me a good excuse to wander around and explore.

SNP reports you can adopt-a-plot from the historic section as many are no longer tended and have fallen into disrepair

Greenlawn Abbey
Columbus, Ohio

(Above) Greenlawn Abbey is unaffiliated with Greenlawn Cemetery in every way except proximity, an atrribute that many believe was intentional to draw on the good name and reputation of the nearby cemetery.

The building is certainly impressive, though so hidden by overgrown brush and junk trees at roadside that not many people will ever see it. The lawn is mowed and the building lit at night so someone must be paying the bills even if it appears otherwise abandoned to the glance.
